For this project, we were tasked with creating two bowls that differ in scale and circumference, but relate in glaze surface. I continued the theme of “gross”/non-traditional style.
For my bowls, I researched some bowls that look creepy and took inspiration from the pictures below. I wanted the user to feel uneasy when using these bowls, so I decided to add human features on the inside. The below pictures are my inspiration, but definitely out of my skill level.

Stage 1

This is the first bowl I created, and I used clay to mold 3-dimensional body parts and added them by slip and scoring. I painted the eyelashes black and the nose ring white to contrast the colors and make them pop. The eye and nose placement are asymmetrical to make the face seem distorted and creepy.

This is the second bowl I created, I also used clay to mold the 3-dimesional body parts and added them by slip and scoring. The edges of the bowl follow a pattern of curves that add texture to the lip of the piece.

The piece together creates a dynamic composition as the face looks distorted and moving.
